Alþingi, Youth Web  - ungmennavefur.is
The Youth Web is an instruction and information web site with the goal of informing youth about Althingi (Icelandic Parliament) and its work. As an educational web site, it is specially tailored to the 10- to16-year-old age group, but is also suitable for everyone wanting to become acquainted with the history and working of Althingi.   

 

The Office of International Education- www.ask.hi.is
OIE is a service organisation promoting international cooperation in the field of education. The services include assistance to academic and administrative university staff involved in international cooperation programmes. The office provides services for students who are leaving on exchange programmes as well as foreign students coming to Iceland as exchange students.

 

European Schoolnet  - eun.org
is an international partnership of more than 20 European ministries of education developing learning for schools, teachers and pupils across Europe.  

 

FS-net - fsnet.is
FS-net is a fast data transport network linking all the upper secondary schools and lifelong education centres in Iceland. It was developed for the purpose of creating a modern information highway between educational organisations that could be used for innovations in schooling as well as distance teaching and distance learning.

Hvar.is is a Web site of the Project Steering Committee on Access to Databases. The site has information on the 31 databases that are nationally accessible - more than 7500 all-text magazines, 330,000 electronic copies of Anglo-Saxon literature, three encyclopaedia databases and one dictionary.

ICT League - menntagatt.is/ictleague
The purpose of the ICT league is to discuss common issues and policies regarding ICT in education. Participants are from the Netherlands, Nordic Countries and Canada.

The Teachers Association of Iceland (Kennarasamband Íslands) is a union for teachers in preschools, compulsory schools, secondary schools and music schools as well as for school management (although not principals of secondary schools) and academic counsellors. The web site of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture has diverse information about the Icelandic educational system. It has a list of all the schools in Iceland, preschools, compulsory schools, music schools, secondary schools and universities. There is also a register of State libraries.

 

The National Center for Educational Materials -www.nams.is
This is a non-profit publishing house run by the state providing educational materials for primary and lower secondary schools, including books, audio-visual media and educational software. The purpose of the website is to give teachers and others updated news on the latest publishing of educational materials as well as general information about the organization.

Educational Testing Institute  - namsmat.is
Educational Testing Institute (Námsmatsstofnun) is a professional, independent, scientific organization in the field of upbringing and educational affairs. In addition, it has an important, statutory role in the Icelandic school system. The organization specializes in the fields of testing and studies evaluation, comparative research on educational systems and youth association research.

 

Nordic School Net - nordskol.org
It is a school network for the Nordic countries. The Web is divided into some parts: "kontaktgalleri", Nordic dictionaries, and a categorized collection of links, a collection of articles from Skolen i Norden, links to the Nordic countries' school networks and other selected pages. The Web also has information about the Nordic Council and the Nordic Ministers Committee.

 

The Dictionary - ordabok.is
The web site has an English-Icelandic and Icelandic-English word database with 100,000 entries. The dictionary database must be subscribed to, but free, two-week trial access can be obtained.

 

The School Forum - skolatorg.is
The School Forum (Skolatorgid) contains a specially designed Web publishing system for compulsory schools. It also includes an instructive information Web for all those involved in educational affairs. The School Forum is a part of the services offered on Islenska menntanetid. The Sigurður Nordal Institute is a financially independant institute at the University of Iceland, devoted to promote Icelandic culture and research into it, both past and present, in all parts of the world, and to build up links between scholars in this field in Iceland and abroad.
